The Kon Tum Plateau EBA is situated in the northern Central Highlands, and also includes a small area in central Laos. The natural vegetation of the EBA comprises montane evergreen forest. The Kon Tum Plateau EBA supports nine restricted-range species, of which three are entirely confined to it: Black-crowned Barwing, Golden-winged Laughingthrush and Chestnut-eared Laughingthrush. All three of these species were only discovered in the late 1990s, making the Kon Tum Plateau the most recently identified EBA in Asia.

Mang Den is small town locates in Kong Plong district, Kon Tum. The town itself is a mix pine-broadleaf forest, many birds can be encountered including Black-hooded Laughingthrus, Red-vented Barbet, Silver-breasted Broadbill, Silver Pheasant, Blue Pitta, Roufous-faced Warbler, Sultan Tit (black-crested race), Yellow-cheeked Tit and Grey-crowned Tit.

The Mang Canh forest is the best spot for Chestnut-eared Laughingthrus, moreover, Rusty-naped, Blue and Blue-rumped Pittas can be founded in some difficult ways, Brown Hornbill, White-winged Magpie, Rachet-tailed Treepie are along the main road -rumped Pittas can be founded in some difficult ways, Brown Hornbill, White-winged Magpie, Rachet-tailed Treepie are along the main road.

This tour is special designed for bird photographers who might interest to shoot those species above, many of them are shy and hard but if you are patient, nothing is impossible. You guide knows where the birds are and will help you to get the best one!

Itinerary:

Day 1. (L, D) Fly Ho Chi Minh city to Pleiku via Vietnam Airlines VN1428 11:40/12:40. You will be picked up at Pleiku airport and drive straight to Mang Den for afternoon birding and photographing.

Overnight at Hung Yen hotel (3 nights)

Day 2. (B, L, D) This full day explore Mang Canh forest where we will spend most of the day for Chestnut-eared Laughingthrus, Yellow-billed Nuthatch and other sough-after species. Have picnic lunch!

Day 3. (B, L, D) Today, we are flexible, it depends on what you get then we decide whether we spend more time for Laughingthuses or for common species as Tits, Parrotbill, Sundbirds.

Day 4. (B, L) We have our final day to finalise our targets before take the flight back to Ho Chi Minh city at 18:00/19:15 on VN1421.

Tour price: Minimum 6 people

The tour cost is $US 500/person which is including transportation by modern minibus, daily meal and drinking water, accommodation base on shared room 2 persons/room, guiding service.
