Aviation Wildlife Hazard and Bird-Strike Risk Management

Location: Vietnam

Year: 2018

Partner (s): ACV

Bird-aircraft collision risk management is one of Wildtour’s applied ornithology specialties. Drawing on field bird identification, bird behavior, seasonal movement and habitat knowledge, Wildtour supports airport and aviation safety teams in recognizing wildlife hazards and reducing bird-strike risks.

Wildtour has delivered three training courses on bird-strike risk management for aviation safety staff from airports within Viet Nam’s national airport system. The training focuses on practical identification, field observation, reporting and site-specific mitigation approaches that can be integrated into airport safety management procedures.

Training and advisory themes

  • Bird identification and seasonal movement patterns around airport environments.
  • Wildlife hazard observation, recording and reporting for airport safety staff.
  • Understanding bird behavior, flocking, feeding and roosting patterns relevant to aircraft operations.
  • Practical mitigation options, habitat management and coordination between field teams and safety managers.
  • Building awareness that bird-strike prevention is both an aviation safety and biodiversity management issue.
