Located near Ho Chi Minh City, Can Gio is one of several good sites for a full day of birding. The mangroves attract several passerine species such as Mangrove Whistler, Asian Tit, and Golden-bellied Gerygone, while grassland/wetland areas serve as habitat for Prinia, Weaver, and Sunbirds. A lot of waterbirds such as Kingfishers, Egrets, Herons, Bitterns, and Cormorants are also common here.
In winter (December-April), many wader species come to stay in the area, greatly increasing its species abundance. Spoon-billed Sandpiper has been seen here several times, and other species highlights are White-faced Plover, Nordmann's Greenshank, Red Knot, Red-necked Stint, and Broad-billed Sandpiper, all of which could be found here.
Highlighted species:
Asian Golden Weaver, Mangrove Whistler, Painted Stork, White-faced Plover, Nordmann's Greenshank, Asian Dowitcher, and a lot of waders during the winter.

Itinerary:
Depending on the season and tide height, we will plan our birding time accordingly. Anyway, you will be picked up at the hotel/aiport in Ho Chi Minh City in the early morning, then drive about 2 hours via the Binh Khanh ferry. When we get there, we will spend a full day birding; sometimes we change the order of the muddy-shore birding and birding in the salt pans and in the mangrove forests.
Lunch will be provided at a restaurant nearby before our afternoon birding.
Then return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Tour-ends.
The number of species expected to be seen on this tour is about 50 species.
